The Better Detroit Youth Movement is hosting an all-day “Art Party” on Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the 4731 Gallery.
The Art Party will feature and promote local artists who will express various forms of creativity –- visual arts, spoken word, fashion and music -- to Detroit youth and the community-at-large to expose the beauty and power of art.
Event highlights will include local art demonstrations and vendor exhibits, hair and fashion style shows, body painting, mural painting, live music entertainment, spoken word and an after-event party with live music and DJ’s.
Early day programs are geared for children, and include dance, fashion and art activities.
The Better Detroit Youth Movement is a newly formed coalition of concerned citizens and community members who are working together to improve the quality of life and learning for Detroit youth.
This collaborative fundraising effort to benefit The Better Detroit Youth Movement, will be supported by various groups including “Abandoned in Detroit, Jaysfades.com, Tell Us Detroit, and UniTee Design.
“We’re hoping this event will celebrate our artists, our community and children, and serve as a wonderful networking opportunity for the art community, various community and youth groups and a broad range of citizens throughout the Detroit area,” says event organizer Harlan Bivens.
The 4731 Gallery is located at 4731 Grand River, near Warren. Advance tickets are $10 for adults, or $15 at the door. Children under 18 are free.
